I have tried contacting the developer of "LKMaps Desktop", Tonino Tarsi, without success.
After using LK8000 when gliding for many many years, I use LK8000 with Condor 2 exclusively these days as my gliding in real life has sadly come to an end. This means that I regularly have to generate maps for many areas of the world on a regular basis.
I keep getting the error below at all times now when using LKMaps Desktop, and while I can still use the LKMaps Desktop.exe I have, generating the Topology is very slow and cumbersome. The link "LKMaps Desktop" in the LK8000 Forum is also sadly long dead.
I have found a workaround for generating the .DEM files by using and Tontino's GIS2LKMAP with data quickly downloaded from Open Topography API (https://portal.opentopography.org/API). However, I am stumped at how to convert the Open Street Map data without using the LKMaps Desktops's Offline Topology function.
If someone can point me to a way of converting the Open Streep Map .pbf files to LK80000 .LKM ones (a zipped file of an extraction of the OSM data), I might be able to create a simple map creation tool for everyone's use. I guess there is no way to convert the XCSoar maps across to LK8000?
I particularly wish to keep using LK8000 after all my years of happy use, and I find the generated maps just slightly higher in definition than the XCSoar ones. I don't want to go to the "Dark Side";-)

good question, will try to check...
TIPS : XCsoar '.xcm' and LK8000 '.lkm' files are almost the same, it's zip file containing shape files ...e
maybe you can contribute to this : https://github.com/LK8000/LK8000/issues/1592 ?

Will do, Brunotil.
I have almost finished a "GenerateLKDem" app that will quickly download an .ASC file and format it as a .LKM from either the command line or the app itself (utilising Tonino's C# routine).
If I can get a method to do the .DEM file as well, I would be happy to release it. Though it won't be as graphically flash as "LKMap Desktop"....
