I have been testing LK8000 in the car, driving towards the edge of airspace (from within airspace at ground level) and I get the distance to the edge reporting different values over time.

I have two screenshots taken 12 seconds apart at about 40kph. The first shows that I am 5.56km from the edge of the airspace (which is wrong), the second says 453m (which is correct).

This manifests over the whole distance from home to the edge of the airspace (about 5K), with the correct distance showing most of the time, but the wrong distance (to the further edge of the next block of airspace I think) showing for maybe 20% of the journey.

Do you know if this is only going to occur when I'm inside airspace (i.e., it won't be a problem in real life) ? I have not noticed this behaviour heading towards the airspace from the correct side.

Matt

Airspace is UK airspace - nothing special. Downloaded via https://asselect.uk/

Not "the" but "an" airspace! So there is no wrong nor correct!

OK, let us think about it, so what should LK warn about?
-the airspace above, in front, under, next or behind you?
-while circling, where is “in front”?
-is the closest airspace the most threateningly one?
-should the distance threshold be the same for horizontal and vertical distance?
-what should the criteria be distance, ETA based vertical/horizontal speed?
-what speed should be used for calculation (GS, IAS, TAS, netto vario, 20s average, MC with respect to circling/cruise/final glide)?
-what vector of speed (toward multitarget destination, current heading, ...)?

Sorry, LK cannot predict your intension nor preference!
If the auto selected airspace is not of interest for you "acknowledge" or "disable" it!
If you want to reference to a particular airspace "select it"!

Thanks for the reply.

I can see how it could be difficult to choose which is the relevant information. In flying with LK8000 for the last few years I have never actually had a problem with the near airspace warnings.

I'll just assume that in normal situations (i.e. not when I'm driving within controlled airspace) it is clear enough to be making the "right" selection for me.
