Eckhard Völlm has developed an inexpensive (300€!) ESP32-based E-Vario

https://xcvario.de/

with FULLY open firmware

https://github.com/iltis42/OpenIVario

and a lot of nice features, see

https://github.com/iltis42/OpenIVario/tree/master/handbook
(unfortunately only the german handbook is current),

like e.g. a hardware multiplexer (FLARM, radio, Navi), a WLAN access point etc.

In the latest hardware-version he also added an AHRS, which can be
evaluated from xcsoar, means he also provides the driver coupling for xcsoar.

In the description of the device he emphasizes also the possible coupling with LK8000.

Question/plea:
Is it possible to re-use/implement his "openvario"-driver for all the nice features also for LK8000?

The manual for the XCVario says that it works with LK8000, can anyone confirm this please?

Hi all,
last year I had the opportunity to fly an LS7 WL equipped with the XCVario 2022 (two RJ45 ports, WiFi and BT). The whole system was: KRT2 Radio - FLARM - XCVario - LK8000 on Android device. FLARM and Radio were wired to XCVario, LK8000 wireless. Notwithstanding the experience in this field, and the time spent to setup the system, my best result was to get data from/to XCVario and from FLARM via BT. As far as I know BT connection doesn't allow to communicate to FLARM and Radio at same time, so I never had radio controls on LK8000. Multiple connection was supposed to work via WiFI, but my WiFi connection was extremely unstable. Unusable. That's why I went via BT. As last, let me say how much I liked this simple, relatively cheap, but effective eVario. I really hope it will become soon a mature and robust piece of hardware for our sport.
