Hi guys,
All over Europe radio frequenciues are changing from 25Khz spacing to 8.33Khz spacing, I wonder if someone knows where we can donwload the most up to date waypoint/airfield databases. The changes are no way logical.. sometimes just add 0.005 to the old frequency works, but most of the time it is something completely different. Like Wuerzburg Schen is changed from 122.175 to 132.990!
The Deutsche Flugsicherung has provided a list here:
https://www.dfs.de/dfs_homepage/de/Services/Customer%20Relations/Kundenbereich%20VFR/05.03.2018%20-%208,33%20kHz-Umstellung/
I tried to import new waypoints in SeeYou desktop, but these are hopeless... I discovered WELT2000, where SeeYou and XCSoar source their waypoints, has not been updated since february 2014!! I used to generate my LK8000 waypoints with SeeYou for years.. but that is not a good idea anymore.
A bit better is OpenflightMaps, but when downloading the CUP file there, a lot of frequencies are missing for the smaller 'green' airfields.. but at the other hand, the ones that are included ARE up to date.

Also the Airspace data is quite good from Openflightmaps. But again, not perfect.
OpenAip seems to be the best so far, with all airspaces and airfield frequencies that I checked are up to date!

https://www.gps-aerodata.com/en/en-home/ is a work in progress, they are working on integration with SeeYou, I hope that becomes available soon, it would mean a great improvement in up to date airport and airspace data.. its a paid service but updated several times A DAY including NOTAM activated deactivated airspaces. Would be awesome if that could work with LK8000, it uses the CUB format, but if you can export it as a TXT Openair file... should work I think.
For now I will use the OpenAip airport data, at least the frequencies are up to date, so I can start using the wifi connection with my KRT2 radio to the fullest. For the airspace I rely on our clubmember Nico who is on the ball with all the changes in airspace data and how to manage these NOTAM activated airspaces.
But.. no matter what, it is getting more complicated by the day with all these changes. I foresee many infringements and communication difficulties this year. |

Hi Marco, you have to consider 2018 as a transition year with regard to 25 > 8.33 kHz conversion. By the end of 2018, the introduction of the 8.33 kHz frequency separation should be completed (equipment and publications). In the Netherlands, an AIC will be issued in December on the frequencies that still needs to be changed (mainly recreational aviation). |

I know Nico, but along the way quite a few frequencies will change all over Europe and if you want to use LK8000 to control your radio as I am planning to do, (see "radio activity" thread) it is very important to use up to date airport waypoint files that show the right frequency of that moment. With the German situation you can see that is quite important because there frequencies most of the time change to something radically different (Wuerzburg Schen), meaning that using the old 25Khz frequency will cause your call is not answered. With OpenAIP it is easy to download new airport data files in cup format, they seem to be on the ball with this.
I sent you an email about our local situation (and a few other things), but I do not want to dilute this discussion with a doubtful decision within our club. |

Hi, using openaip file in .aip (xml) format I noticed the following:
if an airport has more then one <RADIO> tag the first tag is taken as the radio frequency the <TYPE> is not considered so it depends on the sequence of definition which frequency is used.
Considering i.e. Winzeln-Schramberg:
first radio tag is of <type> FIS (Langen Information 128.950) second is <type> INFO 123.650
So 128.950 is used as frequency not INFO 123.650.
May be this can be improved in the upcoming version.
