Hi!

I wonder if it is possible to build LK Map which could look like OpenStreetMap.

I'm flying flatlands and detalisation of existing LK Maps for our area is very poor. Just couple of red lines (roads) crossing green field.

In this circumstances this 'different' map could be much usefull.

Thanks in advance,
Valery

I have the same problem flying in Western Australia, so I downloaded QGIS, took the road layer
from 6 government 1:250000 maps available online, joined them together into one file and replaced the road layers in the .LKM file. Working well on the PC version, I have yet to try it on my V2 but the file is smaller than GER.LKM, so I don't anticipate any problems

It's not that hard, I hadn't used Quantum GIS until a couple of days ago.
Can you get ESRI shape files for your flying area?

download the layer called transport ie road layer, unzip and use the add vector layer in Qgis to open the file. Does this file have enough detail? If not search the internet for other shape files until you find something suitable.
Also have a look at the the current .LKM file you have ie change .LKM to .zip and use the add vector layer to open in qgis, this way you can see how the file is put together, different layers for roads, railways, rivers etc. The idea is when you find a suitable road layer is to replace it in the LKM file and zip it back up.
The QGIS wiki/manual is easy enough to understand if you need to work out how to do things.

hello
I'am trying to put 2 maps together. Because i fly in the swiss alps it would be very helpful to have all the cableways and wires shown in the Lk8000 map. So first i changed the name from the swiss250.LKM map to swiss250.ZIP and opened it in Quantum Gis. Then i have konverted the wiresmap.KML to wiresmap.osm and opened it also in Quantum Gis window. So far no problem because the two maps were together now. But the problem ist how to open it in LK8000. when i have saved it, i could open it again with Quantum gis and it looks OK. But now, how can i bring it to LK8000. If copy the file in the Maps folder and change the name to .ZIP i can see it in the LK8000 Menue nr1. topologie. I'am able to mark ist but then the wires are not shown on the map. Does anyone now what i'a,m doing wrong?

thanks

Can any one explain the file format XCsoar wiki says it refers to the layers color, maximum zoom visibility, icons, and labelling.
this line
city_point, 5070,218,1,223,223,0
I know the 223,223,0 is the color how does the rest work

The zoom levels in LK8000 were entirely rewritten years ago, and have nothing to share with xcsoar.
In fact you set up zoom levels in configuration. I dont remember how they are working concerning the tpl, although it was me who made them.

It is one of the files inside the lkm/zip file.

Hi
Thanks for the help. Now i could find the topology.tpl file in the "old" LKM file. So there will be no use to change it there. I think my problem ist how i have to save the "good" qgs file to use it in LK8000 (LKM).
This because when i change the name of the qgs file to zip, i cant open it to see the topology file.

thanks
