Forum rules - last revision 12/08/2018
Welcome to LK8000 forum! We highly invite everybody (experienced and new users) to participate this forum. Since we got so many users we want you to follow some rules. LK is an open source project which needs the help and support from users for users. In order to make your and others stay as pleasant and constructive as possible please take your time to read through this document, it will help you navigate the pits and traps this community has created for new members ;) These rules can be changed without notice though normally we announce changes via announcement in all the forums.
Please keep in mind that this is an open source project. This means: It is all done volunteers and none of the developers or participants is getting any money of compensation for this work. So you should see yourself as a user talking to the community; not as a client talking to a company. 1) Read up before asking! There is already tons of information available:
feature list: http://www.lk8000.it/new-20-features.html manuals: http://www.lk8000.it/download/manuals.html videos: www.youtube.com/LK8000team FAQs http://www.lk8000.it/faq.html news: http://www.lk8000.it/news.html facebook: www.facebook.com/LK8000
You can see your version: a) on the Startup screen b) in Info->Status dialog c) in _System/CREDITS.TXT file (updated with every version)
Version.txt (is for official releases only)
If you want to know more about the changes before updating your version follow the Forum Development updates section and the LK8000 Github repository.
https://github.com/LK8000/LK8000/blob/master/Common/Distribution/LK8000/_System/CREDITS.TXT
For future and upcomming features in progress follow the GIT pull requests: https://github.com/LK8000/LK8000/pulls
and this forum with a search function: http://www.postfrontal.com/forum/search.asp and sections as: Development Updates: This is where we announce new versions and new developments, you can reply with comments on different version. please do not open new topics here!
Hardware: Here you can get/ask for specific problems questions and features regarding hardware including variometers PDAs PNAs.
General Support: Here you can get/ask for general problems questions and features regarding LK8000.
Paragliders Here you can get/ask for specific problems questions and features regarding Paragliders.
Delta/Hang Gliders Here you can get/ask for specific problems questions and features regarding Para and Hang Gliders.
BUG reporting and solved list Here you can post your found bugs. Please note that we always need the Version you’re referring to and in most cases we need to know the Hardware Setup your experienced the problem. But the most important part is: Please give us a HOW TO descritions in order replicate the bug. We give always full priority attention and time to examine and solve problems. In order to fix a problem we first need to be able to replicate it. If you get the problem constantly, it is easy to fix. If it comes sporadically, under random circumstances, then it is complicated and we shall need all of your help to try and replicate it. Please read this carefully: the “it works for me, so you are wrong” never applies in Bug forum of LK. Never! If the bug is not a bug, and for any reason you were wrong, the message will be moved to a general support area, or change request area.
Change requests and new features list Here you can look/ask for new features. Before you post a feature request please make sure that you tested the latest beta of the Development Updates section in order not to request something which has already been added to the cutting edge version. In case of “support new hardware” requests we have a golden rule. We will not add any hardware support without having the hardware on our desk, for testing and implementing purposes. Please note that we do our best to fulfill all request, but we’re only a few developers so a request may be denied or get a low priority if it is too special. We’re aiming for features which have benefits for most of the users not for very special groups or HW setups (e.g. exotic logger support; implementing uncommon national contest rules) You should keep in mind that the flying experience of a user may make a difference in our perception, so anonymous users will not get the same attention as user with real names and identity. For the same reason it is important for us to know which flight experience in terms of hours flown a user demanding a feature has. Because, as you can understand, an experienced user will get more attention than a beginner, although –of course!- good ideas can come from anybody! Deutschsprachige Ecke (German corner) “Deutschsprachige Ecke” for German requests. Please use this for D-A-CH specialties only.
Developers This section is for LK8000 software development support. If you don’t have programming experience, you should ignore this section.
1) Use the search function (http://www.postfrontal.com/forum/search.asp) before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
2) Respect the netiquette: Lurk and get to know the forum before you post.
3) Keep the focus: Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved, locked or simply be deleted.
4) Be nice to each other and respect the moderator. Profanity and insults will not be tolerated.
5) Do not spam. No blatant advertising.
7) Keep the size of images down.
8) No cross posting. Post your message once, to the appropriate forum and nowhere else or it will be locked or deleted without warning.
9) Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.
10) Do not send questions pertaining to topics of discussion on this board via personal messages or email to Moderators or Admins, they will be ignored.
11) Don't post just to increase your number of posts. If you have nothing to say on a certain matter then don't post. The number of posts on this board has no direct relation to the experience of a member.
12) How NOT to post on this forum: -Post’s like: “If you don’t add this feature” LK is unusable for me and x thousands of people. LK8000 has been widely used in several thousand flight hours all over the world and proven it's usability in flight. Such post are usually intended to increase the priority of a request, but will most likely provoke in the opposite.
-5 minutes after your initial post you reply to your own post writing something like "Why is nobody helping me? I'm sure you know the answer". Once somebody replies to your thread but doesn't give you exactly the answer you've been expecting you insult them.
-Do not ask "what's best" because this question cannot be answered objectively. Each and everyone has their own view about what's best in a certain area. The best is what works best for you!
13) The official language is English. Only in exceptional cases you can use the “Deutschsprachige Ecke” for German requests. Please use this for German specialties only.
14) Multiple registrations are prohibited and are grounds for immediate account deletion.
15) Instructions by the moderator team are to be followed.
16) No discussion about the rules or their interpretation.
We hope, that you find the information and support you need. Your LK8000 Team |
