Hi,
I've found that on my Mio C310X (in v2.0a), the tightest zoom available appears to be 0.09 mi. That’s a pretty tight zoom, but I think I’d like it as tight as 0.04 mi (or maybe even 0.03 mi) when thermaling.
In "paraglider/delta" mode, the thermal circle on the screen is 100m (328 ft, 0.062 mi) in diameter. I find that this is a pretty realistic circling diameter in a HG, and I may even fly a circle with a diameter as small as 200 ft (61 m, 0.038 mi) when low. In portrait mode on the Mio, the zoom scale indicator/bar appears to be about 1/6 of the total screen width. So at the tightest possible zoom (0.09 mi), the screen width represents about 0.54 miles (2,850 ft, 870 m). So at the tightest zoom possible (0.09 mi), the thermal circle drawn on screen is less than 1/8 of the total screen width. It would be more useful to me, if it took up a larger portion of the screen.
Do I have something configured wrong, or is this a softwre limitation?
Thanks,
Eric
P.S. - I'm really excited about the new "orbiter" function. This kind of function could be really helpful with job #1 - STAYING UP! |

It is a limitation on low res devices used in portrait mode. I think it shoud be fixed in v2.1 |

Thanks. I tested and found that I can zoom in ~30% more (to 0.07 mi) in landscape mode, so I may use landscape mode until/unless this is changed in v2.1. Of course, using landscape mode limits my downwind "view" of landing places, and my typical XC flights are in winds such that my downwind glide range is 3-4X my upwind glide range (partly due to the low airspeeds and low performance of hang gliders).
Thanks for the info and all your hard work.

I flew yesterday (with LK v2.2d), and thermals were very small and weak, forcing tight circles. Not remembering the max zoom scale, I kept tapping the "zoom in" area of the screen while circling - trying to zoom in more. Eventually, I just figured I was at the max zoom-in level (which I was, as it turns out) of 0.07 mi (landscape mode). My circle was so small on the screen that it was unusable. Any chance this maximum zoom-in level could be increased? We HG/PG pilots can turn some pretty tight circles when needed! :-) I've flown a couple of other times this year, and in larger thermals, 0.07 mi is acceptable (although a little more zoom would still be an improvement). But in small thermals, a tighter zoom is NEEDED on my (small) 3.5" screen.
Thanks,
Eric |

Eric, you should try and use beta version 2.3c. I think Mat has fixed the zoom in the latest beta . Or in the next one still to be published, I don't remember now.

The zoom levels for Hangliders and Paragliders still unchanged on the latest beta.
Nothing really changes if we choose a different zoom value |

I just loaded beta version 2.3e, and the maximum zoom-in level is still the same (0.07 mi) for me. I'd like to be able to zoom in to 0.04 or 0.03 mi. |

It's the same in 2.3f, too. |

Another thing I notice is that the distance before was in meters and now is in KM, before I use to have 260 meters and now I get 0.26km, I personally prefer if the distance is lower then 1km to be displayed it meters.
Mateusz is the responsible to fix the zoom :) I hope he is reading this topic! :D |

I see (beta v2.3l) that this (my maximum zoom-in level) is still unchanged. Any chance it's coming soon...? :-)
Thanks,
Eric |

Mateusz was developer in charge for the zoom levels but right now he is away from the development team, at least I don't see him around.
I also did this request long time ago and no news about it: https://github.com/LK8000/LK8000/issues/40 , we just have to be patient, a lot of good stuff has been added to LK8000 and I know that Paolo is making a HUGE code clean up.

Sweet! I promise I'll be patient, though, so don't give anything I ask for undue priority. :-) I appreciate all the work you guys put into LK. I'm loving it and have just "converted" a local paraglider pilot who now has hardware on the way for his own LK setup.
Thanks,
Eric |

Oops, 2.3m has already built by Paolo. If he accepts the code, you can test the changes in the next version. |

Ops sorry had to leave for the weekend out, so I did a quick release. The terrain profile in asp analysis is really cool, Kalman! |

Kalman, thank you very much! I will wait for it, is it possible to change the name of the zoom values: more, less.. To numbers?! |
