Tried searching the forum but didn't find any references to SoftRF:
https://github.com/lyusupov/SoftRF/wiki/Prime-Edition-MkII
and it's use with LK8000.
Can it be connected to my kobo?
Has anybody used it with LK8000?
Any advice/help very much appreciated!

Following some discussion on https://gitter.im/lyusupov/SoftRF it would appear that not only NMEA sentences have to be set to "Legacy-ON", but also the "Protocol" has to be set to "Legacy".
It seems that the cause of my problems was me setting "Protocol" to "OGNTP"
This has allowed for OGN tracking to work but not allowed FLARM to send messages to LK8000.

This remains a theory until I am able to test it back at the club... it may take few days :-(

tested it with new settings:

and all is fine!

not quite sure about "Alarm trigger" setting (either Vector or Distance) but I am guessing it only matters for standalone version of SoftRF and when used with LK it makes no difference.

NOT the one originally supplied with TTGO T-Beam board.
I am using the one recommended in the BOM:

Make sure you are using the NMEA legacy sentences - legacy set to ON

Glidertracker is not SoftRF! - I know, mentioned it only just to show that when SoftRF is switched on I can see my glider on Glidertracker (or other tracking pages)

You will see Traffic arround you (<5km, direct view) only - That's the reason for my question - I do not see anything, whether in air (tested last few days) or today on the ground where I have a tug and a glider both Flarm equipped in front of me

make sure you have a FLARM in reception range? - that's why I am trying it on the ground today, with Flarm equipped aircraft closer than they would be in air...

I was also pointed at:
https://gitter.im/lyusupov/SoftRF
might be the place to ask as well...

RTFM!
https://github.com/lyusupov/SoftRF/wiki/Settings

Make sure you are using the NMEA legacy sentences, and...
Glidertracker is not SoftRF!
You will see Traffic arround you (<5km, direct view) only.
msake sure you have a FLARM in reception range?

SoftRF is now connecting reliably to kobo ClaraHD, Flarm is being detected by LK8000, but no traffic is showing on the multimap flarm screen?? despite my glider and others being visible on Glidertracker.
Possibly nothing to do with LK8000? but just in case it is another one of my dumb errors?
Any ideas?

not only dumb, but also blind... :-)
At last! :-)
Managed to get Kobo Clara HD connected to SoftRF, using your procedure.

Thank you for your patience and help!

Config -> WiFi

I must be dumb...
How, where? do you turn wi-fi off/on in LK8000 on Kobo?
Do I disable/enable the device? or something else?
AlphaLima Posted - 26/04/2019 : 00:25:58
Turn OFF WiFi IN LK8000 ON KOBO
Turn ON WiFi IN LK8000 ON KOBO
bambuko Posted - 25/04/2019 : 23:43:07
Start LK8000 - do you mean "start LK8000 on Kobo"? done
Turn OFF WiFi - do you mean on smartphone?done
restart the Kobo - done
goto Kobo OS - done
Connect to the tethered smartphone (with same SSID and Password as the SoftRF) - done
restart the kobo - done
Start LK, setup the SoftRF connection - done
Turn ON WiFi - do you mean on SoftRF or on the smartphone?

just noticed that none of my devices (kobo, phone, and SoftRF) can get any GPS fix, so nothing is working at the moment...
will have to wait until GPS comes on again
AlphaLima Posted - 25/04/2019 : 22:55:40

Maybe I am doing something wrong?
according to Med50 post:
quote:
...To activate this feature you have to "uncomment" a line in the .addons/.webportal/vhosts.conf configuration file, by opening with wordpad and removing the # symbol...

well... vhosts.conf looks as follows:
quote:

# list of hostnames for the local server (changes require reboot)
webportal
portal

# for intranet wifi without internet (also needs www.msfctncsi.com/ncsi.txt)
# msftncsi.com www.msftncsi.com

Does anybody understand it? and which line am I supposed to un-comment?

Everything I've tried so far didn't work ...
bambuko Posted - 24/04/2019 : 23:51:53
Waited for 30 minutes, tried connecting to SoftRF (after happily connecting to tethered hotspot) with no success.
Installed the addon from mobileread forum, with no success.
It's a shame, because I like (and prefer) my kobos...
bambuko Posted - 24/04/2019 : 21:36:57
Thank you!
I understand first part (i.e. SoftRF wi-fi has no internet connection).
The rest of it is completely foreign lingo to me :-) I am afraid.
Sounds like I will have to get some young person to explain it to me ...
I will try to google tethering and the like ...
At least you have confirmed that it is not me doing something wrong - thank you!

later edit:

I can connect kobo to wi-fi hotspot on my phone using SoftRF-xxxxxx and default password 12345678 no problem (thanks to google search).

Still a bit vague about the next step...
happy experimenting :-)
