LK8000 running on Linux and Kobo - What type of Kobo E-reader is commonly used? - Specifications of this Kobo, what is onboard? - What adjustments are needed for use in a glider? - Comparison between V2 and Kobo, what are the differences? |

You need something like this: https://www.xctracer.com/en/user-manual/59/?oid=1896&lang=en |

Could work only with kobo supporting USB OTG AND with "Y" cable to provide external power.
i don't know your dongle, but "vk-172 ublox7" is known to work.
list of kobo supporting OTG : - kobo Mini - kobo Glo - kobo GloHD - kobo Touch 2.0 - kobo Aura 2 edition - kobo Touch (N905C)
I guess I'll pick it up the GlobalSAT one and try first. The idea is that because it is USB micro, it can connect directly to the Kobo, no y-adapter or external power adapter required.
The goal is to replace a sectional on a kneeboard with a moving map display. I'm trying to avoid going with an entire flight deck. |

Posted - 19/06/2020 : 03:35:26 Found this "GlobalSat ND-105C Micro USB GPS Receiver" dongle on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Globalsat-Micro-USB-GPS-Receiver/dp/B00N32HKIW/
Since my intention is only to use it as a moving map on a kneeboard as opposed to some of the more advanced features like radio and vario integration, I figured I'd try this route so I could do all my planning stuff on it prior, and simply plug in the USB dongle when I'm getting ready to fly. It would save battery life since it wouldn't require power for the GPS until I'm ready to use it, and also wouldn't require me popping the case and soldering in a dedicated GPS module. It also saves needing y-adapters, external power supplies, etc.
Problem is I don't know if it would work. It says it's a standard NMEA receiver, and even though it's only $32, I don't want to waste my time and money on the "easy plug-and-play solution" if it's not actually a solution and I'm going to have to crack the Kobo case in the end. Any thoughts? You guys know this way better than I do. |

Posted - 12/05/2020 : 22:05:11 Which GPS module is recommended for KOBO?
I am talking about modules that can be connected to KOBO mainboard. I am thinking about L86 L86-M33 GPS, would that do?
Has anyone tried it? |

Posted - 03/03/2020 : 08:57:36 I used to fly with KOBO in Wifi mode since 4 years ago. But I always dreamed a simpler link to my variometer and also to provide power to the Kobo. I tried several times with OTG, cables, adapters, converters... Finally, my ideal solution: Direct link to the serial UART pins on the Kobo's mother board... (Kobo GLO HD)
Works like a charm!

Posted - 01/04/2019 : 22:44:16 -How do you determine the smartphones IP Address? -For Wifi Connection make sure, the smartphone has an internet connection. (otherwise the Kobo will not recognize the connection) -Turn WiFi on in LK8000. (Config->WiFi)
However we have a dedicated app for it, making live easier (you don't need the smartphones IP-Address) and giving the Kobo sound as well: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.LK8000.lknet
