Do you have some idea, what is wrong? Thank you |

To force the com port on Micro-usb port , you'll have to connect pin4 (sense) to GND.
This port is Com1

Hey, grounding that sense signal worked. I jumpered it to Gnd on the Mio MB because my miniUSB cable didn't brake it out for me. Now it spits out Nmea data like a champs.
Thanks !! |

Posted - 23/06/2012 : 21:32:33 I'm trying to interface Mio M400 running LK8000 to a Brauninger IQ vario. The Vario is set to receive RS232 signals through its GPS port, which from what I read is what the Mio M400 can be made to Xmit through the USB/serial jack. So I configured COM1 port on the LK8000 configuration page to NEMA output which according to the manual should spit out the internal GPS data. The problem is, I don't get anything out of the Mio M400 port. Neither on the Xmit or the Receive line. I went so far as to put the lines on a logic analyzer and but fail to see any output. What am I missing ? Is the USB/Serial Port on the Mio M400 on a different COM port than COM1. I tried COM4 with same result. |

Posted - 16/10/2010 : 20:08:10 IT WORKS! After some nights of work it has been really a great emotion to read the beautiful message "FLARM DETECTED" on LK. The circuit was OK, just the GND on PIN4 of the MINI USB was missing. The scheme is very simple, and it takes a Max232 converter, some capacitors, and a 3V3 zener diode to limit the output voltage to 3.3V. Initially I connected the device to my laptop to check if shortening the TTL in and out I could read my transmission using a simple program (I downloaded Putty for this, as Hyperterminal is not present in Vista). Having done this successfully, it meant that the converter was working. Then since the connection could not be established on the MIO the problem was on the Mini USB connector. It was enough to connect the PIN4 to GND and suddenly the connection was established. Thanks to everyone which gave me advice and help, I can't wait to test it in flight.

Posted - 15/10/2010 : 15:43:35 Thanks Dany, I'll do it as I go home this evening. I have a doubt though: on PIN 4 in the mini USB there is nothing connected. I followed the pinout for the standard Mini B connector, that is:
PIN 1 - +5V PIN 2 - D- --> Data TO the T-Advisor PIN 3 - D+ --> Data FROM the T-Advisor PIN 4 - nothing PIN 5 - GND
I am not sure that the Pin 2 and 3 are correct, but when I tested the opposite cofinguration (PIN2-Data FROM and Pin3-DataTO) no results were apparent on the MIO. What is the purpose of the PIN4? Also, I saw that in creating the cable for the IPAQ314 it was necessary to insert a 1k pull up resistance between the power +5V and the green cable, which if the connection was standard should be PIN 3. Is it necessary also on the MIO? |

Posted - 15/10/2010 : 00:45:25 In the Vladimir 's Unlock , there is a program who's name is Putty. With Putty , you can test Serial link. Set it for Com1 4800 bauds. You can try with Com2 9600 and you'll see the internal GPS Dialog.
To enable Putty, edit the welcome.ini ( \Visual\Skin\Main) file like this:
Search for ICONXPBUTTON X=135 y=135: remove the # :
You have this :
ICONXPBUTTON x = 135 y = 135 SizeNormal = 100 SizePushed = 100 Command = \My Flash Disk\Visual\Scripts\Apps\PUTTY.mscr IconNormal = ..\Icons\terminal.ico IconPushed = ..\Icons\terminaldn.ico Offset = 5
save and reboot.
This button is at the righ of Usb Button and under Lk8000Sim button.
If you don't have terminal.ico and terminaldn.ico, you don't see the button, but you can click and start Putty.
In Putty chose serial , chose Com port , speed and then click Open.
If the communication on Com 1 is good ,you'll see the same text as for Com2 .
If it's not good , look around the voltage on mini USB pin 4 Sense.

Posted - 14/10/2010 : 23:35:07 So, I have retrieved a Texas Instrument Max232N and I have built the RS232-TTL converter. I couldn't find any 3V3 zener diode, so I bought 4V3 instead (better than nothing). Initially after completing the circuits I measured the voltages and now the TTL side has positive voltage, so I proceeded to connect the MIO and give it a try. ... nothing ... The power supply is correct (at least I have external supply for the MIO) but no other signal of communication. After some trials I finally found a setup which produced some results: when I plug the miniUSB in the MIO it goes into USB mode. The connection scheme is the following: DSX TX - Max232 pin 13 DSX RX - Max232 pin 14 MIO MiniUSB pin 2 - Max232 pin 11 MIO MiniUSB Pin 3 - Max232 pin 12 I loaded Vladimir unlock so that the USB connection page is not triggered and tried to see the GPS signal on LK800 but with no result. Any particular setting to adjust either in LK8000 or in the MIO?
Trying the same connections without the Zener diode didn't produce any results. This is the best I could manage, so where do I go from here? Any advice is appreciated.
I have to check with 3V3 zener diode as soon as I can get some, or with a max3232 (I has soldered a socket, so it will be easy to change the drive, the circuit should be the same). |
