All sorted! There was some short circuit on my breadboard! Cheap china stuff... I have done vario code from scratch adding some noise filters & true battery levels. Still lot to do, but noise when vario is on a table is varying about 20cm for every 10s. Vario reading will look like that for 10s time: 0, 0, 0, 0.2, 0, -0.1, 0, 0.1, 0, 0... I have not done LX8E1 sentence yet. I need to do a beep for acoustic interpretation for vario value... nearly done!
I will be soldering a test unit soon. Anyone who want to test it is welcome. I live Birmingham, UK. Just drop me a message...

Checksum in Jaros code need this filter to work correctly: http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1279500031 It takes single checksum numbers (1,2,3..A,B,C) and replace them with two digit hex values (01,02,03...0A,0B,0C). Once my code is ready I will post an update :) At the moment I am working on vario sound. This is really challenging. I had a look at xcsoar mod for vario, but it is massive! I am not a C# programmer, so it looks like a big magic for me... I bought few parts and I am still awaiting for them- more China stuff... what about adding humidity sensor and calculate dewPoint/cloudbase? |

I don't know about C# but in GCC using AVRStudio I use the default GCC library with this line
sprintf(command,"$LK8EX1,999999,%ld,%d,99,999,*%X\n!",valor,vel,ck);
And the int "ck" is printed has 2 digit hex.
But you have already solved your comunication problem don't you???

| Yes, checksum is no longer an issue... :D Vario is giving first beeps, very nasty sounds. |

Hello! Now I have a even weirder problem. Using a similar setup to Jaros I am able to send the altitude, vario and temp to LK8000, inside and as long as the GPS has no satellites in view the setup works for hours. Has soon as I go out and start to record a flight with GPS active it only records for 4minutes and them the MIO crashes.
I run out of ideas has what could be causing this behavior. Can someone chad a light?
Thanks |

Hi,
I try to connect a F1 Flymaster with Bluetooth to a 7" Chinese PNA, but a havenīt found a bluetooth driver to emulate Serial Port.
Anyone can help me? |

Hi,this is my experience : If your Windows system does not support serial Bluetooth profile, then the connection is not possible. You can still try some programs for bluetooth connection, but I fear that it would. I tried connect Flymaster F1 and PNA NavRoad but without success. The main problem is the fact that the system always launched in the same form, which is hard in memory. So nothing can be changed permanently in the registry... |

Hi
I would like if it's possible to connect a speed sensor to know the true air speed ?
Thank You |

It will respond to commands on the SPI bus to set the sinktone and climbtone thresholds, turn the audio on and off, or return data such as altitude, temperature, climbrate etc." There is plenty of room inside a Mio m400 for such a small vario. Beat that {insert name of big vario producer}!
Hari's website has dissappeared into nowhere, but I found a link to an improved version that was built with the purpose to use it in RC models. If you want to read more, this is the link to follow http://goo.gl/jur6q |

Damn, you're some kind of Google Sensei ,i saw both projects for the first time:). Someone said that pixelproc's vanishment has something to do with a commercial project ( best of luck and many thanks for the inovations). Right now i stick with Jaros approach , both projects are exactly what i want ( and i have bought a Skytraxx 2 ,splendid thing). |

Sorry it took a bit, but found it again. Website is not indexed by search spiders so it is not easy to find, but here it is again: Machine's that goes *ping!* ( http://goo.gl/kDYgi )
Regarding ST2.0 very promising aproach. I had to return mine because I was fed up with the device freezes 3x in mid air during flight and maybe half a dozen freezes during operation at home. I heard there is a new revision out, hopefully with improved hardware and incorporating a watchdog to reset in case of freezes. |

Sorry to hear about your ST2 ,i saw you are not the only one with this issue ( i personally know someone with exactly the same problem, unit replaced, all good) mine is working great ( gift from loving wife ,that's why :D) However, even i don't do comps i feel that my deck is not complete whithout LK8000... |

I'm going to replace my Aircotec XCT with the Holux as soon as...
Well just as long as the vario input is missing. As I'm in contact with Hari, he proposed a nice option when I asked him for a recommendation to choose from his various barometer designs. I will forward this to Wolf and maybe he wants to incorporate that for the Holux CS61
quote: Aside from SMD fine pitch soldering, knowing how to read and understand a microcontroller datasheet/manual, you will have to ensure the timing cycle of the sensor sampling is not affected by sending NMEA messages. This requires understanding the code, knowing how and where to add new code without breaking old code, ability to hook up to a scope or LA to recheck the timing, changing the clock frequency.
That said, its possible and would not be a big task for someone with embedded software and hardware troubleshooting experience (that doesn't mean a college degree in electronics). So your best bet would be to find someone with this experience and infect him with your enthusiasm for the project or bribe him with his poison of choice. If you can find someone, forward the following paragraph :
Even the coin vario should work, unless there is something I haven't foreseen. You would have to increase the clock speed to possibly a few MHz to allow you to generate a UART baud rate that is close enough to a standard baud rate recognized by the Holux, and high, e.g. 38400 baud so that the NMEA print takes less time. Then you would have to insert the code in the right place in the sensor timing cycle to print the NMEA sentence. You would then have to time the sensor cycle to see how the sensor sampling has been affected, and tweak the parameters so that the climbrate calculation is still accurate. There would be other hardware issues and practical trade offs at every step that you would have to make decisions on.
If you can't find someone to do it, and there are enough people interested to donate a Holux 61CS, I'd be happy to do it. Thats right I'm getting mercenary. But I've seen enough designs that are obviously ripoffs (with no attribution) of what I've published on the website, that there has to be something in it for me !! (I already have a gps-vario-gsm project on the shelf that keeps me occupied when I feel the urge to tinker, though I really should get out and actually fly more).
regards hari

Hi Guys, I am new to the forum, I am very grateful with your work and let me tell you that this is a great place with a lot of knowledge.
I have being playing with a MIO M400 and using Jaros code with an Arduino UNO board and a BMP085 sensor to send the LK8EXT1 strings to the LK800. I managed to write the code and using hyperterminal I can read the strings on my PC, but when I connect the Board to the MIO and using Terminal CE I cant see the strings on the MIO Windows CE, I can see the GPS strings coming thru port 2, but not the Arduino strings. I know the cable is good, I purchased the 5 wire miniB pig tails from Argenta, and the brown wire is connected to the black one (4 and 5 connected together to 4 on the other side), even when I connect the cable to the PC the MIO does not lock onto the USB connection icon like when I use a normal cable. I have tried all the possible COM1 and COM2 and baud rate combinations options in Terminal CE and in the LK8000 with no success. I even played with the "device_settings.ini" file, changing ports, baud rates, enabled the one2one port, same thing with the tmc port, but still I cant see the strings coming into the MIO or Terminal CE. After much googleing and trying everything I am out of ideas, has anybody ran into this situation? Any suggestion or help is much appreciated!!! Thanks!!!!
I can provide detail of code and connections, but didn't want o make this post even longer. |
