Guys - the V2 should be going into production end of this month ( July ) with delivery shortly afterwards. I can not confirm any dates but as soon as there is solid info I will post on here and update the website.

All the best Lawrence

hey hey hey Fat Albert,
How do you get LK8000 to run on the Kyobo?
Doesn't the Kyobo run Android 2.3 ?
How do you connect the GPS etc?

Also any news about the PixelQi device you were suppose to get around this time? (however it would be a great device, the prices of PixelQi devices are out of my league (near €1000))
I take delivery on Friday 6th, I will provide an update next week

I am using a Vnc client (bVnc, supports gestures) to remote control a UMPC (Viliv S5) running Vnc Server and LK8000. As you can see from the video it's perfectly usable, about the same speed of response as a Chinese PNA

The S5 has an inbuilt GPS (SurfStar III), a 4.8" 1024x600 LCD and a 6ah battery (1.3mhz Atom, 1gb RAM, 32gb SSD). At €200-€250 from Ebay, the S5 would be the ideal platform for LK if only the screen was sunlight readable!!!

Hi folks

We have been doing a lot more testing with the new xxxx unit. We now have our own external power supply and RS-232 interface up and running and tested with a selection of instruments. Seen here (below) taking GPS Position and Pressure Altitude from an EW MicroRecorder.

EW-LK8000-Setup:

EW-LK8000-Fly

The new 10 pin Mini B USB interface is not yet widely available, but the good news is that it supports TWO Serial Ports! The purpose built interface is scheduled to go into production very soon.

More soon!
Regards
Allan

Paolo, never mind them. It's the same unit we "all" were testing and the "usual" guy will deliver in late july.
The main issue here is the price and the commercial structure involved: if someone is SELLING this unit, as Vertica/Lawrence has done in the past (correctly) or someone else they should be awared that many clones are now available. Of course VAT and other taxes will be part of the final price I suppose. And this means that CORRECT seller or retailers will not be able to win the fight. And, my two cents, that will be a very big pity... So who's SELLING or trying to SELL this item thru NOT REGISTERED channels would be better leave this tread. But it's their final decision...

In other cases the ones who promoted a "purchase group" have NEVER advertized this on the forum, because there was NO COMMERCIAL TARGET and RESULTS to be achieved. Of course no one is earning money for that kind of service, just some glory, friendship and a lot of headakes.

Just a question about that 10 pin mini usb port. What is the current rating for that port (amperage). Is it still charging battery on highest brightness and bluetooth enabled ?

As a matter of interest I see on the Kyobo Korean site that this has been reduced HUGELY in price to 99,000 won (A$85 or 71 euro) - Astounding)

Cheers

As promised, here is an update on the Pixel Qi screen, quite simply it is in a different class to any other technology. The device is a generic Chinese 7" tablet (Atom 1.3ghz, 2gb RAM, 64gb SSD, g-sensor, GPS, 2xUSB, WiFi, Bluetooth, SD card and Quad Band SIM) which has had the Pixel Qi screen retro fitted, it is optically bonded and requires no back light at all in daylight.

The screen is native 1024x600 but supports 1024x768 with a slight distortion, the attached video was shot using 1024x768 since the biggest available LK screen definition is 896x672, hence the border around the LK window. I flew a 200k task this week in a duo discus in order to be able to 'play' with LK :-)

There is no question about it, this technology is by far the best available, it's better than Mirasol because in low ambient light conditions, e.g. inside a building, the back light provides colour depth & contrast indistinguishable from the best conventional LCDs whereas Mirasol screens look 'washed out'. The downside of this device is the price and it's size, it's even bigger than the Kyobo :-(

Hello Allan, with TWO serials. Does it mean that I could connect it to my 302 and a Flarm together?
Kind Regards,
Delio

You dont need two serials to do it, Delio. You need a Mux from K6 for example.
But yes, in that case you can do it because the V2 has two serials and I think a spare more one on bluetooth.
The only problem is the connector for the miniUsb 10 pin which is unusual.
GliderTools may be involved in this.

Hi Paolo, yes I am aware about the K6, but it is just another piece of hardware inside with extra cables attached. It is good that V2 can sort it out with just an extra cable. Tks a lot, Delio

I doubt that having two ttl converters with double power supply for them will be simpler than a mux, but I cant be sure right now since I have no time to spend on the converter myself. I am trying to solve a problem with fonts on the V2.

@FAT ALBERT:

I think you shadowed the display quite a bit in your video... could you perhaps post a few photos from different angles to get a more complete picture of the devices performance!

I believe it is important to show what happens when the sun is ahead of you, because that was the principal problem of old TFT displays: perfectly readable when sun on the back, unreadable when sun in front.
