I have been trying in vain to get my Kobo GLO HD to join a wifi hotspot run by my Android 8.1.0 phone (Nexus 5x) to enable livetrack24 through LK8000. I have renamed the hotspot, and tried with security and without. Kobo always says "Unable to join 'xxx'. Please try another network." {Other networks work fine}.
I did a reinstall of the Kobo software, updated it to the latest version, and tried before and after layering in the LK8000 software.
This could be an Android issue. Or a Kobo issue. Thus, this might be a poor forum to ask for help, but if any of you that have tried the same thing have succeeded where I am failing, perhaps you could share a word of wisdom.
For those in a similar situation, Android 8.0 and 8.1 have broken the hotspot connectivity on Nexus 5X and higher phones. My successful solution was to change APN type to: default, supl, dun . Immediately the hotspot began broadcasting.
