Does anyone know if a RAM-mount can be fitted on the 61CS craddle?

The cradle has four holes about 30 x 38mm apart.

Hi rotor,

check this: http://www.navigation-professionell.de/compegps-twonav-delta-test-allround-navi-motorisierte-gps-freunde/

They should be using the same cradle with ram mount

hi.... I returned back from hospital....
four holes with diameter 3 mm are in the middle part of original cradle, pitch is 37,5 mm horizontally and 30 mm vertically...standardized ones probably.... photo of universal plates female/male http://i.sunnysoft.com/obrazky/6/2/6/6262/6262/800x600.jpg and http://www.sunnysoft.cz/zbozi/124PHR-013/sh-adapter-sroubovaci-male-1642.html.... those plates should be able click in to several of car holders

These look like the same standard plate as the link I pointed at- I'm using one with a Vertica V1.

Bad news is the separation is 30mm vertically and 20mm horizontally.

I attach my Mios to any flat mount with velcro - is this not a possibility? Allan.

I have been flying for years like this with a home made knee stand thing for my GPS Pilot III...it looks very silly, but works fine, and very comfortable.

One thing though.. and rust me on this.. you should mount it to your other leg! (try to grip the stick...hmmm)

As you know, the inside of a glidercockpit is sometimes like a "tourist-class seat" (or worse) and it is often very "busy" especially on the leftside (spoilers, gear, trim and flaphandle). Plenty of room on the rightside and the stick isn't a problem.

Years ago, when gps was new, mounting on your leg was discouraged in the UK, as you had to look down, well away from looking out. It was suspected that one mid air collision may have been caused by a pilot looking down at his new toy.

That is if you mount it flat on your leg, but with this stand it is pretty much in front of you, flown years like this and was quite comfortable, I did not have to bend my head down to have a look.

@rotor, I dont know how you fly, but when you have your hand on the stick your fore arm will cross your upper right leg.. if there is your HOLUX, it will be in the way.. When the stand is on your left leg, you can still operate all levers with your left hand, because it goes behind your stand.. well, you will see for yourself soon enough :)

The right place for a knee stand is "on the pea": in the middle, between the left and the right leg.

It seems to me that in considering this solution the safety aspect has been overlooked.

It may never happen, but in case you have to jump with the parachute I wouldn't want to have such a bulky equipment strapped to my leg, and possibly even wired to the glider.

Just my 2 cents.

I have thought about this when I was flying with such configuration, but figured out that the stand with GPS would not be in the way when bailing out, using the "rolling over the side" method. The USB connector will disengage very easy, so the wire is no problem eather.. Once under the parachute, the stand will slide down your leg that is less wide then your upperleg, at that moment is gets so loose it will drop from your leg, or you should be able to kick it off, so it wont be a problem during the landing.
