Hello,
I have these nice topo maps for the alps for XCSoar from Skyfool created from OSM Maps; it would be nice if I could use them in LK8000, is there an easy way to convert them from XCM to LKM?
Thanks in advance,
Matthias

Hello AlphaLima,
sorry for the late reply - that's pretty cool! I am downloading map data right now...
Thanks for the help!

I have just changed suffix xcm to lkm. It works but strange numbers on map. Map that I am using is more precise than LK default maps.I have also tested LKMAPS with no success. |

you can't use xcsoar maps without reworking them. They have a different internal configuration. lk has a different topology approach where each category can be configured for zoom levels. We can prepare in the future bigger and more detailed maps for topology.

I am always puzzled why detailed maps are wanted for flying. In the UK, the standard paper map for GA is the 500,000, designed for aviation with not a lot of topographical detail. Other, more detailed maps are available, but they are not designed really for aviation, just ordinary maps with aviation information added. These are generally not so good in the air.In fact when teaching navigation in the old days, we said think big, don't be concerned what that small feature is. Now with gps navigation, and programs like LK8000, we navigate from waypoint to waypoint most of the time, we don't really need topo at all. Terrain is useful, especially in the mountains, but if we are looking at pretty pictures on the screen, we are not looking where we should be looking, outside.

But for trekking and car mode more details can be useful maybe. With the new memory mapped approach introduced by Bruno we can make better maps for all platforms now. |

But a lot of guys are also use LK8000 for flight planning and for this detailed maps with topo are an advantage..... No doubts about lookout priority!!! |
