OK Marco, here some hints: -Don't forget a switch to "hook off" the Wifi from the radio in case of malfunction and for legal aspects! (even if I never needed it in three years)
-Be careful with the RF noise of the DC/DC Converter, little ferrite rings are mandatory to prevent noise in the radio.
-Check and adjust the output voltage of the DC/DC before connecting it

I do not really understand why a "hook off" switch is required. If it malfunctions.. well, it mallfunctions and is communication with the KRT2 not possible, but the radio should still work fine, because only the RX and TX (and power) are connected to the wifi module, right now these pins are also not connected to anything. Anyway, a switch in the powerline would do the trick right? What do you mean with "legal aspects"? Note that we do not modify the radio at all, we just make use of a feature that is already present.
I had a look at the power supply, and it contains two "HF filtering capacitors", this is not enough to get rid of the HF noise? But better safe than sorry, will ad two ferrite rings to the in and out going power wires. Would the use of shielded wiring help?
I noted the adjustable power output potentiometer on the power supply :-) will adjust the output to 3.3V using a multimeter, while hooked up to a fully charged 12V battery.
BTW, I think this power supply is also nice fo charging the LK8000 device |

Imagine the PNA Software hangs and is tranmitting permanetly (which is not programmed but theoretically possible). Or the frequency is changing permanently. The only way out in flight would be to turn off the radio.

You should do all you can to reduce RF, shielded wires and ferrite on both ends.

double check, also when load is hooked on.

Not at all, PNAs and Smart phone need 5V not 3.3V.

Ok, got it, thanks!
I thought the power supply was suitable, because you can set the output to 5V as well.. I mean the chip is suitable, another one, beside to the one used for the wifi of course, not the same one :-) |

Hi Alphalima and all,
All PCB components have arrived! But I still need wiring and ferrites.
Everything is very small, smaller then I thought, but that is good in a way.. but to use shielded wiring, makes it a bit difficult. Since the connections will be kept as short as possible, will use standard PCB wiring (30AWG) and install ferrites where ever possible, I bought a bag of these:

Hi,
I'm looking to connect my Gliderguider, running LK8000 (WinCE) to my KRT2 Radio. I have seen a video on YouTube showing it to be possible but no guidance on how the two units are connected, is anyone able to clarify?
In an ideal world i'd like the GG to receive Flarm and GPS information from my LX7007 Pro IGC, and also be able to communicate with the radio but can live without this functionality.
I understand it would be a lot easier if I was using an Android tablet... |

Hi Guys.
This project has been on the backburner for a while, but this week a friend of mine will solder the wifi module together, he is much better in doing that.
Last few weeks very busy with upgrading my panel, very happy with the result.. in the middle top, the LXNAV S80. Ram ball on the panel now for mounting my smartphone or gluider guider :-) Left of the Altiumeter you can see the KRT2, which I will connect with the wifi module.
Fingers crossed everything will work as planned :-)

I have finished, my panel, still some RJ12 cable issues to be able to declare a task, but I know what is wrong so that is 15 minutes work. The wifi module is not ready yet, that friend of mine is very busy and flies all over the world, he probably is somewhere in Afrika at the moment.. But I am in no hurry at all to get that working.. why?
We are in the middle of a transition from 25Khz seperation to 8.33 Khz seperation, frequencies change left and right week by week day by day.. So, the chance is quite high the frequencies in the airspace/waypoint files are no longer valid.. I already had such a similar issue two years ago, the frequency of the Wasserkuppe was a very old one in waypoint file (generated with SeeYou desktop) I tried to call them on the frequency that shown up in LK8000, but did not get a response, simply had to land there, and then once on the ground I checked and they told me the frequency was a very old one of about 10 years ago!
So.. with the current changeover I expect this might happen quite a lot.
This makes it mandatory, before starting to use the connection with KRT2, we must make sure the frequencies in the airspace/waypoint files we use in LK8000 are correct.
Anybody knows a source of airspace/waypoint files that keeps the radio frequencies up to date as well? Is generating them from SeeYou desktop a good idea?.. and then if you find errors, how do we correct them?... Painstaking work, already get a headache thinking about this!
Ok, so far my concern about using the KRT2 connection right now.
Below a picture of the finished instrument panel built in my Mini Nimbus, and everything turned on :-).. note the WiFi switch on the right :-) it is wired from the Circuit Breaker of the Radio.

The past weekend I have spend to find a good source of up to date airport data in Cup or Open air format.. and OpenAIP seems to be on the ball with this, I downloaded the germany airport cup file, and the airports I checked were all correct.

You must register to be able to download airport and airspace data. I think it is a good source, but no guarantees of course.
Germany is quite proactive with the transfer to 8.33 channels, so I think it is a good idea to check OpenAIP once a month or before the day you plan to fly cross country, to check if something has changed.. of course you can also check directly at the source, the DFS website, they have a special page where the new frequencies are announced, if it are just a few frequency changes you can manually change the existing cupfile in notepad:
