I have verified a possible problem with all V2-type devices (thus also GG etc.).
All of a sudden during flight there is a message like GPS NO DATA RX and then the software is no more working.
All V2 owners should try this workaround:
1) In device configuration , Serial mode, set to Polling .
2) When the NO DATA RX message happens, click on menu button, go to Config 3/3 menu, Reset Comms.

The RESET COMMS button is resetting the communication ports and then start back using them. No log is lost.

This is a temporary workaround, until more evidences are gathered to spot the operating system problem, or hardware problem.

The problem appears to be related ONLY to the internal GPS port.
Even if it is configured as a fallback device on port 2.

Please report experiences here.
thx

Just for the record. We have received two reports of this fault, both using the internal GPS (COM4 @ 9600 Baud) and both using LK8000 Ver.4. (One on Ver4.a and the other on Ver.4b.)

We have had both units returned and have been unable to replicate the fault - despite many hours of testing.

Kind regards

I've had my V2 13 months, no problems that I've noticed, several flights around 4 hours. I also use Com 4 9600. Where is the version given. All I can find is in device information
RoM version 01.001.1 CHS Date 3/31/10
Protocol version DV3.0
So, even though no problems, should we change to Polling mode? Context help suggests the change if connection problems occur.

@Coolwind

During my 3 out of 6 or so freezes, pressing the menu key gave only a click response but no further reaction.
In the other freezes, shutdown could be started but never completed.

dg500, this is compatible to the "normal" mode of serial, and should not happen using polling mode.
What else can I say, I too have a V2 and in over 12 months, dozens of flights and over 100 hours never got a problem.
Same for friends! Except, last time three of my friends got the problem, all of them at the same time!!! On different gliders, doing different things. Sounds amazing..

Personally, I only had the problem after several long uneventful flights which had convinced me that my own V2 was not one of those suffering of this.

Please whoever is suffering of this problem and could replicate it several times, contact me for further testing.
The problem normally appears with a "GPS NO DATA RX" message or similar (translated).
Previously, it is possible to have a GPS NO VALID FIX.

Yes I am going to prepare a temporary version 4.1b0 , no need to set polling mode.
Lots of diagnostic in case of malfunction. Possibly intercepting the failure.

Bad forecast for the weekend, so I flew today, and that's what happened (Vertica V2 and 4.1A): On my last flight I had experienced the issue for the first time, and today it did it again, after only 16 minutes of flight, at a temperature of about 18 degrees. I couldn't try the workaround because it was completely frozen. So I shut the PNA off, turned it on again and started LK. After about 5 minutes it did it again. This time I could push "reset com ports" (I had set polling mode),but after I hit that button it froze again. Turned off the PDA, turned on and this time it continued working until I was home, hours later.

Please confirm you were using Polling mode in the serial setup, also at the start of the flight.

Ok thanks, very important for me. Alf, can you please try using the PNA while driving, and see if the problem appears again? This would help me a lot, because we cannot replicate it so far.
Then please get in touch with me via email so I can send you (and Dave) a special version to try.

OK.. Today I did not turn it off after the flight and drove with the PNA still on until I came home and turned it off. No problem during the trip, which lasted a couple of hours, with some stops. In the next three days i will have to drive quite a lot, so I will try and let you know.
