http://www.bware.it/LK8000/LK8000-310I-UPGRADE.ZIP

We deliver this version after 3 months of work by me, Ulli and Bruno mainly. Documentation about this beta is ... well it cannot be called documentation. We had no time to make it, but we could prepare some videos which are available here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/LK8000TEAM

Inside the package you can find a document FAI Optimizer.doc which Ulli wrote as an explanation of this feature, and in videos there is also another explanation of it.

I invite you to try also the Car-Trekking mode and look in bottom bar stripes. Activate the vario gauge in car mode, it shows you acceleration of your car. Totally useless, but fun. I use car mode while driving and while walking for trekking, the snail trail is tuned for slow speed, the logger will create only 1 log and not 2000, generally it works quite good.

The PC version allows now to do nice things with the arrow keys, fast forward replay, and stuff like this.
Well there are too many new things to try in this version.

We plan to add a few more things before v4 release.
. We shall change the task file format to make it text readable
. We shall add CUP task file loading support
. other things in progress

So here comes what we did in the last 3 months.
LK8000 VERSION 3.1i 121130
==========================

NEW THINGS

New Multimaps

New FAI triangle optimization

New G Record Key for LK8000 Logger, valid for OLC. We have our own 3 letters code which is XLK.

New support for external validators of IGC logs.
This is for online contests or even real contests currently rejecting LK logs because the signature key is in public.
An external program called LKRECORD_PNA.LK8 should be copied inside _Logger folder to activate the special signature.
This action is required only for some contests, like UK XC.
Support files .LK8 will be released in the public distribution.

New CAR/TREKKING functions

New Device profile buttons, made independent from system configuration. We now have predefined
profiles for different devices. Profiles can now be shared among devices, and among pilots.

GPS-NAV task declaration support

Overtarget rotation:

-Skip MATE overtarget if no target mate is set.
To access MATE own code the direct multitarget menu is available.

-Skip F> overtarget if there is no Target set while Flarm is detected.

Buttons
Add Button INFO 1/2 for SONAR TOGGLE

Pan Mode
PAN mode: smoother coordinates printed in overlay, fixed portrait mode glitch

Change PAN mode orientation: always NORTH UP.
(So it will not twist around while panning in flight and circling!)

Bottom Bar
BottomBar SYS6 showing CPU load percentage in place of Grecord available.

New Infoboxes

New Rotary_Speed and Rotary_Distance values, for CAR mode, calculated average speed and distance achieved in the last LD average period of time. These values are reset by Trip Reset.

New Customkeys
Add new customkey SONAR TOGGLE , will toggle the sonar sounds on and off in multimap ASP

New customkey Reset Trip Computer .
Will reset Trip timers, FlightTime, and Odometer.
Can be used in any mode, but currently only ISCAR mode is calculating Trip values.
Only in ISCAR mode the FlightTime will be reset
This function is performing a classic Trip computer reset like on bike computers.
Todo> add more informations for Trip, such as averages, climb values etc. for trekking

Add new "Force landing" customkey.
This will force landed status, so that logbook is updated, and eventually logger is stopped.
This customkey requires to be below the takeoff speed, otherwise it will simply say "Stop moving".

New declutter engine for landable waypoints at low zoom levels

New virtual waypoint: FREEFLY and FAIOPTIM .
They indicate start of freeflight and the current optimized triangle turnpoints.
They appear automatically inside COMMONs page, and in the waypoint list of course.

New PC SIMULATOR KEYS, working as an optional in addition to SIM buttons.
On PC, in SIM mode only, it is possible to trigger changes of altitude, direction and speed very quickly by using arrows and PageUp Pa
geDown.
- Arrow Up/Down changes speed as with SIMULATOR buttons.
- Arrow Left/Right changes direction by 5 degrees, WITHOUT setting a turn rate.
- SHIFT Arrow UP will fast forward at 10x speed, many times per second.
- Page Up and Page Down will change altitude by 10 meters or 45 feet.

. By keeping the keys pressed, values will change rapidly.
. You cannot go below altitude 0.
. At altitude 0, while steady on ground, the simulator will set ground altitude.

NEW Replay logger keyboard commands for PC.
Only when in map pages (any multimap page) you can use PC keys to interact with the replay logger.
. Arrow Up : lower replay speed , up to 0X .
. Arrow Down : higher replay speed, no limit.
. Arrow Right: advance one minute forward in time
. Page Up: advance 5 minutes forward in time

Remarks>
- you cannot go back in time .
- replay speed over 10x will report inaccurate values in calculations
- advancing in time will not update correctly calculations, doing interpolations.
It will simply skip all intermediate points .
- Setting replay speed 0 will let you examine the situation like freezing flight at that moment.
- this is working only on PC

CAR/BIKE/TREKKING MODE

CAR mode: NAV1 showing Odo and local time. STA3 showing average speed.

CAR TREKKING STA3 added Chrono box.
Timers in Trekking/Car mode are the following:
Moving time
Steady time
Total (moving + steady)
The above are relative to working gps, with valid fix, and thus with the PNA unit turned on.
Forth value is Chrono: time passed since start of trip, counting also the time passed when the
unit actually was with no valid fix or turned off for any reason.
All of these values are reset by the Trip reset button (configurable in custom menu)

CAR / TREK mode start trip speed is 3kmh .

CAR TREK Bottom bar STA3 inverted Odo and MaxAlt to show ODOmeter on 4.3 devices, with priority.

CAR TREK mode: BottomBat STA3 showing Moving, Steady and Total trip times.

Add new Trip timers for Car/Trekking mode: Moving and Steady times in seconds

Change Aircraft category "Car" to "Car, Bike & Trekking"

CAR mode variometer is using horizontal G load . Other settngs are ignored.
The variobar will display acceleration and deceleration of your car/bike/boat/pedestrian ability.
The positive and negative acceleration have different scales, calculated dynamically during the trip.
Decelerations in cars are more effective and accelerations, and thus we have a separated scale.
After a few minutes the system will be autocalibrated to show accelerations and decelerations at best.
So even while running, or biking, this variobar will be usable.

PARAGLIDERS

Add Sector Turnpoint in PGTaskMgr,
for now optimization for type of turnpoint, use always center point !

Remove AAT Iso Line Drawing for PG Task

Add IN/OUT type in Task Waypoint dialog for PGTask

disable AAT Time notification for PG optimized Task

CHANGES

Better white text outlinining, smoother and much nicer

Faster panning and zooming
30% faster drawing airspaces "border only"

Airspace Sonar is now working globally, and can be disabled/enabled with a button

Rename virtual waypoints if they are part of a task, when saved.
Virtual, like TAKEOFF or FREEFLY are renamed with a leading TSK_ .
There waypoints can be saved to task, and made real waypoints.

TASK lines made thicker and better visible

Add optional glide footprint around active WP

Faster Zoom and more responsive PAN mode

Reset COMM ports automatically on no activity after 3 minutes, not after 30 seconds.

Add BEEP to startup timeout on welcome page, so we know the LK has got the GPS fix.

Do not force reload of waypoints when creating or editing a new one.
We unload and reload waypoints only for the DELETE case.

Reduce CPU Usage in Task system

Make the map scale indicator with a better look and contrast.

Remove system configuration items for Enable Terrain and Enable Topology: multimaps have a button for that.

Accept a short click for welcome page confirmation, and change sounds for welcome page.

Change aircraft shape and color, a bit. White colored, black outlined, and bolder on low res devices.
The problem was on low resolution the shape was almost invisible under the sun.

Change DEFAULT_MENU for Display 1 page.
Visualglide removed from menu, Overlay toggle is replacing it.
In addition, Airspace toggle will not force immediate menu off.

BottomBar stripe "TRM0" is no more enabled by default, and if enabled it will not be automatically selected while thermalling.
When entering and leaving a thermal, pilot often want to keep their own bottombar information under control.
Up to now, it was disturbing more than helping, to have an automatic triggering of this information.
It is still available in the normal bottom bar rotation, once it is enabled in the configuration.

Location marker altitude in pan mode is the terrain altitude, if available. Otherwise it is zero.

Improve battery warning messaging: after 1 hour with no errors, accept back warnings even if they were disabled because too many, previousy.

Terrain with no topology will print water areas all the same

FIXES

Fix old bug hardware keys no more working after defocusing LK windows, on PC or PDAs.

Fix old bug not correctly saving some CUP waypoint files (file name disappearing in configuration)

Fix bug in FastPanning mode, forcing unwanted refresh. Panning mode much better and smoother now.

Fix very old bug disabling keypress actions randomly.

Fix : Crash on shutdown when task edit dialog is open !

Fix waypoint selection list not showing invalid virtual waypoints.
Like LKMARKER for example!

Fix Distance To Next Overlay for Exit Waypoint

Fix handling GPS comm failures, passing control to a secondary (port B) device if connected, even
if it was not giving GPS (example, LK8EX1)

Fix bug announcing Baro Altitude available if it was never really received at least once.
Minor bug because this was happening only at startup when a device providing baro altitude was declared to be used but not really connected, or not really providing valuable data.

Load FlarmNET database during startup, not before LK launch!
This will dramatically speed up startup of LK and gain to the splash screen, while using FlarmNet.

Fix Calc of Start and End of sector and ligne in case of first & second Task point is same Turnpoint

Fix PG optimization for Line Start

Fix Calc of Start and End of sector and ligne if current turn point is same as previous turnpoint

Fix PG optimization for Line Goal

Fix 3.1 bug not showing pan altitude in correct units

Fix small bug showing infinite current glide ratio when on ground, not flying.

Fix small bug in 3.0 showing E.20 even when not flying

Fix bug in 3.0 not setting the default altitude when creating a new waypoint.
We are now using terrain altitude, or gps altitude if we are in non-sim mode, and the altitude from the gps is higher than the terrain (which is always approximated).

Started to look at it, what a lot of work has gone int it. What I can't find though is how to make the map in Multimap p2 etc North up (selected in Config-System setup), like p1.

The multimaps 2..5 can not change the map direction. The main purpose of it is to give the top view information that belogs to the sideview. It is the same sideviews we had on the analysis pages in the former versions.

Really cool work guys!

One thing I'd miss is the gliding mode icon (circling/enroute/final) in the bottom right corner wich has obviously been replaced by the multimap number.

Only Pilots know why birds are singing!

I was afraid of that Ulli. For me that means Multimap is totally unusable in the way it is intended. The only way I can see to use it, is to make p2... full screen airspace sideviews, and just flip between 1 and the others. At least that is quicker than previously. I think that it is far too confusing to have one orientation) on one screen, and a different orientation on another, especially in complicated airspace.
What I was hoping for was the topview to be exactly the same on all multimap screens 1....5, whichever orientation was chosen in setup, it should be global. I am not saying it should be N up, that is my personal preference, but whatever is selected in setup should be global. It is very good that sonar is global. Another thing that changes is airspace display, my preference is semi transparent borders, but apparently this doesn't apply to topview 2..., where there are large areas of Class A in solid red blocking out the topology.
Please don't get me wrong. I love the idea of multimaps, it is great feature, but not the way it is done. For the first time ever, since I started using LK8000, and that was almost as soon as it became available, there is something that I really, really, don't like, and I think, potentially hazardous. Sorry to be negative, but there is no point in not saying what I think.

We do believe this approach is the very best possible.
Topview is aligned to sideview.
Changing orientation is not a technical problem, but we could not think about a better way of doing it, to let people understand in sync both views.
Since many people fly north up, this is pretty similar. Even on low zoom levels we have north up orientation.

I don't think it matters how people have the screen, it is purely personal preference, but it should be consistent. I really do think it will be confusing to change so that one top view shows it one way, and another view shows it differently. Surely most pilots will be happier to see the same view in all map/top views as they normally use. It does not need to be synchronised horizontally, they are quite different views. I have been flying around in my part of the UK for well over 40 years, I know how the terrain, topolgy, and especially airspace looks in N up, but turn it on it's side, and the shapes are no longer immediately recogniseable, you have to think about it. It's like the watch on your wrist, you have only to give it a glance to know what time it is, twist the dial through 90 deg, and you would have to look at it for much longer and work it out. Even worse if it keeps changing from one to the other.
I wish a few others would comment one way or the other. I feel like a lone voice cryiong in the wilderness, but I can only say it doesn't work for me. I've found my way round it, though it's not a good way.

Since the topview is resizable, at best you would have the same as main map (identical) or a reduces main map with the same orientation (on PNA main map in track up mode is already quite limited, reducing it further by 30% more would make it useless).

Sorry Paolo, I don't really understand. I know the 2 parts of p2,3, and 4 are resizeable so that you can have the screen split in the middle, or more top view, less sideview, oe vice versa, but orientation is fixed.(confirmed by Ulli) As I said in the first post, the only way I can make this work for me, is to have 2,3,4,(no Flarm) all full screen sideview, and just change between them and page 1, set N up. BTW I use portrait.
This point about orientation was made 6/8 weeks ago in the "Going multimap" thread, but we were told to wait and see, so we have waited. All I'm really asking for, is that in System setup p3, Orientation has a choice of global or not, then the pilot can use what they prefer.

For a long time people were talking that LK8000 display is too clutered with inforamtion and it is hard to analyze what is presented to the pilot. I am a bit affraid that multimaps make it much worse as it is really hard to understand the display on a device with 4'' screen like Mio M400. Regarding problems reported by Dave I do not see much issue with screen orientation on other pages and I never fly in Nort Up setting on main page.
One more think is that I do not think that Radar multimap should be visible when FLARM is not connected. I will also miss TRM0 appearing automaticaly while circling...

EDIT: My bad with the radar issue. I used wrong binary that had that option enabled as a testing mode. Released version works great!

One or two other things. Can airspace setting also be global?
In Pan, the centre marker and co-ordinates are all flashing approx 1/sec on the V2, but on the PC sometimes the top line flashes, sometimes the bottom line, and sometimes both or none.

Dave , I dont know what you are talking about. Sideview must be aligned to topview, again.
Maybe in flatlands this is of no importance, but in mountain areas it is extremely important.

Mat, I dont know what you are talking about. Probably you did not spend 5 minutes to see the video explaining how to change multimaps contents.

OK Paolo, if it is important in the mountains, then that is what you want in the mountains. But I guess there are lots more pilots in the flatlands, and as one of them, (we do have hills, but not really mountains) it is not important, in fact to me it is undesirable, so can't we both have what we want? You said it was not difficult technically.

I confirm technically is just a matter of changing a few lines probably.
We must study this orientation thing a bit, although for me (flying in mountains!) it is perfect.
And then: I use it in landascape mode. Issues are flatlands and portrait mode.

Guglielmo: I saw the !waypoint optimized problem, it is something for Bruno.
