Hi Coolwind, if your team work on graphically FAI assistant for the next version of LK8000, please remember on following:
- citation from paragliding XContest rules -
"After landing, the recorded tracklog should be examined to determine the scoring distance flown. Here the start point, up to 3 turn points and the finish point are to be positioned on the tracklog to provide the greatest possible distance. A flight may be scored as a triangle, when the distance between start point and finish point is less than 20% of the entire distance as given by the 3 turn points. The scoring distance will then be given by the turn point distance, minus the gap (finish to start) distance."
FAI triangle definition: "Triangle conform to the FAI definition (the shortest leg of the triangle must be at least 28% of the total triangle)."
It is important that the FAI assistant must calculated with user adjustable distance (in percent) between the start and finish point! In Czech XContest 5 percent, in WorldXContest 20 percent...
Little example : My flight 19.4.2011. I did not achieve 200km FAI. I have not accurate information about my real flown FAI distance in the air. When I have this necessary informations, I could adapt my flight for it... ( http://www.xcontest.org/world/en/flights/detail:Clouseau/19.4.2011/08:33 )
Some inspiration for Your work:
Nice FAI assistant from XCTrack

and from SeeYou
SeeYou have a nice option choice triangle position with one click! The FAI Area will be drawn on one side of the first leg. If you would like it to be on the other side, simply tap inside the area and it will rotate to the other side of the first leg.
It would be nice to combine some of the good features of the examples...
Please keep this in mind when creating FAI assistant, when you work on it ... thanks so much!

Hallo Ulli,
very good start!
What do you think about drawing the figures on the map?
(And ... later ... moving the points by finger ...with magnetic attraction to the available waypoints ...)
Greetings |

That is great news and will be a major enhancement for using LK8000 in OLC flights which I was looking for ...
I would appreciate at least a simple form for next season which than can be enhanced in whatever direction, but today there is no real support in finding the FAI triangle area in a free OLC flight.
One additional comment. It would be great to have an automated marker for the beginning of free flight. Today, I always need to set that myself, so that at the end of a free OLC flight I "close" the triangle. Or did I miss anything?
Thanks so much for your work!!! |

Right Thomas, we are missing the virtual waypoint for start of freeflight. We have TAKEOFF, but it is not the same thing of course. I can add it. |

Adjustable distance... in percent... or in value (3km, for example, in french CFD)
See also a good planner : http://xcplanner.appspot.com/
Thks for all, Guillaume.

The FREEFLY virtual waypoint has been added, as well as the new FAIOPTIMIZED virtual. They both are automatically available in COMMONs page, also. FREEFLY waypoint is also reporting in its detail's notes the time and altitude, as a reminder.

Hi, would it be possible to show distances within sectors by 5km in paraglider mode? It is just an idea because we fly smaller distances. |

one more idea: I tested FAI assistant with some igc. Paragliders are so slow and we try to jump clouds to clouds so the first leg is far not straight usually. In theese case after the second leg started the passed snail trail can intersect with the yellow sector on the far side. When it happens the screen changes and it can be a bit confusing. What if the sector intersection would allowed only by the cursor (current position)? |

I tested 5km before, the display gets too clutered on high zoom scales, if you need the exact value you can use the analysis screen. No, the optimizer is designed to be automated and without any configuration need.
