Is there any information about the use of a GT altimeter together with the 61CS? Has someone already tried this combination in a glider? What about sensitivity, accuracy, etc.?

I am using it with the 61cs under a paraglider. The GT-Altimeter works perfect no issues and good sensitivity but you still need a VARIO! The recorded track has both information baro and GPS height. |

| Mazuk, what GT Altimeter version are you using? I guess the one for "Wayteq, Oudie, Vertica V1", right? And are you simply connecting it to the the 61CS via mini USB? |

Alf,
I am using the standard version so NOT for Wayteq... You have to make your own adapter because the 61CS has NO miniUSB with serial connection only via the bottom connector / cradle.
The difference between the GT-Altimeter versions are only RX / TX signals are swapped. Ciao Mazuk |

I understand that the next delivery by Wolf-Gear will have four different options. Some (all?) of these options will have a miniUSB female connector for a GT-altimeter. |

I think it is time to create a sophisticate device for the 61 I/O. Like for my sophisticated device for powering the 61 with miniUsb (a hole in the back cover), I am thinking of a very simple connector to the 61 low external connectors. We dont need anything else! |

Coolwind,
you are right! The problem is to get a pogo connector. I found a supplier but his minimum order is 75€ You get it as 3x2 arry so you will need two.
This is what I made so far but without pogo pins it has not a reliable contact.

You know what, I am going to SOLDER the connector there, and make it easier. A dremel and a soldering station can do miracles (and also a screwdriver sometimes!) |

Mazuk, how many pogo connectors do we get with 75 euro? I could verify that the GPIO01-04 pins are active (by short circuiting them with GND) and generate the equivalent of 4 PDA buttons, nothing different.
Soldering directly on the connector is possible, but indeed the last choice. |

Problem is that even with pogo connectors, we must use a sort of a cradle to ensure contacts! What about opening the 61cs and access the connector and cables internally? Then, Dremel them out. I bought cable, buttons and box to make a 4 button remote control today.

I had the unit already open and ofcourse this would be also an alternative. My approach was, not to change anything at the unit just in case I will sell it again. But now since I saw how good the display is in sunlight and also the performence I am also thinking to have a cable (miniUSB female cable) connected and route it out.
On the other site I still need some sort of cradle to have it mounted somewhere.
A smaller not so bulky would be the best choice for me.

Sophisticated solution for charging and TTL/RS232 output for paragliders (mainly) from bottom connector exist now.. Previous "light holder" was redesigned completely and substitued by plate with pogo connector and cable, fixed to 61CS. I will manufactured first pieces during this weekend .....and place photos here...

Here is link to *.pdf document, where is described, how to modify original Holux cradle for something more light and suitable for para/hang gliders pilots especially:http://www.wolf-gear.com/images/stories/61cs/gpsmile61cs_light_holder_mk2.pdf.
GPSmile61CS versions Free Flying (FF001) and XC001 will be equipped with this "light holder".
Complete unit with holder should be fixed by Velcro, glued on unit backside.
