I am pleased to announce that Medion has sent me devices to work on for full integration of LK8000.
The S3747 http://www.medion.com/de/electronics/prod/MEDION%C2%AE+GoPal%C2%AE+S3747+WEU/30011637A1
is water proof, for outdoor usage, with a 1800mA long lasting battery.
It is the same BV-3200 hardware.

Under direct sunlight is very good, quite like the FunTrek, although this is a bigger 3.5 inches screen. I shall make some pictures today.

Internally, this device has a pressure sensor, digital compass and 3 axis accelerometer, plus a temperature sensor, and BlueTooth audio (not sure if it does SPP for serial).
I still have to discover all features, so this is only a preview.

Thanks to Medion and Royaltek, I now have all necessary libraries and documentation to make use of internal sensors, and let LK take control of backlight, sound, baro altitude, and power supply, pretty quickly.

It would have been impossible in practice, without having one device to work on and test.

I know other manufacturers are working on more models, bigger screen, full sensor, and will come out with these devices in next months.

I took the chance of a bright sun day, to take some pictures of Medion-Royaltek aside Holux FunTrek and Mio400.
First of all, let me say that the MIO400 once twisted by some degrees will result much better visible than how it appears in the pics, and wearing polarized sunglasses once vertical (or horizontal, depending on device) will be quite perfect having no light reflection.
This said, the Medion 3.5 inches is quite good and reminds me some good old Ipaq screens.
The difference with those old Ipaqs are:
- a long lasting battery
- a 400Mhz CPU
- GPS embedded
- pressure sensor, compass, accelerometers, temperature, and also the price.
Few people remember how much those PDAs were costing up to 5 years ago.

I still have to make an exhaustive test on the Medion battery, but the 1800mAh Litium looks really promising.

Great news! I think the Medion will become a very usefull device, especially because of its well sized screen ( 3,5" low aspect ratio)

Cheers to the development team!

Looks good! About the baro sensor, is it sensitive enough for use as a variometer?

Maybe we could try to set up some kind of a collective order for this kind of new devices. Perhaps we can get some discount that way?

Does that mean that the .igc file records both the GPS and barometric altitudes as do the FAI/IGC approved loggers?

I'm asking this as an Official Observer, although I realise that LK8000 won't be approved even if running on this Royaltek device. It's more about the OO's ability to consider "supporting evidence" of a flight performance when something goes awry on the primary recorder.

Of course it does. As far as I can remember, it has always been like that: there are 2 altitude fields in the IGC records.

Hi, do you know if there are difference between 3747 and 3647?

the 3647 has a lower price, and if the technical spec are the same for our use it could be better.

thanks

Matteo
