It is not cheap, on that I concur, but 4 hours seems to me a very good duration.
then we can always add external battery pack (like we are doing with all our other stuff).
The main drawback to me is the small display, if it was 4" I'd buy it immediately.
I'll wait to see the 4.3" model, which according to wolf_pg assumptions will maybe available for the next year.
We'll see ...

Today I have flown using Funtrek as backup unit to the MIO (testing a new version on LK, better have two units!!). I have landed after 6 hours, and Funtrek logged the flight for OLC. Battery remaining: 61% . Very good performance (Funtrek's, not mine..).

...small technical explanation about backlight performance: FunTrek has one feature - automatic control of backlight intensity for best display reading ability.... "full throttle" on direct sunshine....therefore endurance with on maximum backlight level is not so evidence. this feature could be switch off, certainly, so that could be backlight operated as on other GPS units.

The Garmin Montana 650t looks very nice, but isnt it that these units have a Garmin propriatary operating system? so no way it can run LK8000.. Or has Garmin changed their policy and do these run Windows CE?(it is not in the specs) If So, this looks very promissing for the furture (they have to get a little cheaper first)

Nvmd,i did it, even in portrait/ibox mode is ok ,but the thing is buggy, buggy, annoying , 3 times from 10 is doing nothing ,4 times is stucked with the hourglass spinning ,3 times is working ( the same even with "ce commander" ,this one must be started after 1 minut minimal).
Still curious about the battery life, after 10 minutes of setting maps, airspaces, com ports it was at 92%.
LE: found the bug, looks like wince is not completely loading no matter how much time i wait until i start and close a program; if i click "waypoints" and then "return" arrow is working in parameters,i can start this way with no issues LK8000 ,TwoNav.
Funtrek 130+ TwoNav = Sportiva ,i think ,the unit can pe upgraded with a new OS with or without Sportiva interface ( didn't do it,i declar myself happy ...sort of)

Ok,final verdict: nice platform for testing , is the hardware equivalent of Eclipse:)
I managed to install a naked but completely functional WinCe 5 , and thanks to a splendid software from Holux you can test everything ( baro, temp, gps, screen, memory , light sensor, etc) directly from WinCe.
Starting today the interface can be downloaded from Holux website ( easy install, copy a file and a folder in root, restart).
Installing apps is a breeze.( is a pattern you must follow to make the apps appears in the interface,or just install ce commander and launch from it)
Nokia BL5C batteries accepted:)

KAtfly, are you talking about Funtrek or what?
Funtrek has already Window CE 5 underneath, so I dont see how you can manage to install the OS.
I really dont know what you have been talking about in the previous message.
This thread is about FunTrek 130 in fact.
Installing applications on the Funtrek is trivial, and people do not need anything special , only a USB cable to PC and editing a couple of file to add a new icon and app path.

Yes,about funtrek 130 ( known also as gm-130).
In case smth go wrong a fresh copy of wince can be installed ,is an easy process ( boot in recovery mode with the image on microsd card ,choose option 2 ,ok).
Even so LK8000 is fully working.
I was trying to bring some light about the device,if i was not "on the line" please delete the above.

No, no. Just wanted to be sure we were talking about the same device.
I havent been hacking into it, because it is an open platform and I could do anything I wanted on it without any problem.
The OS update on Holux website was already part of the firmware I found in my unit. So this led to my confusion.

In fact is really confusing ,there are 3 files: the boot loader ,the system update and the interface ,the second can be upgraded separately...hope i understand correct:)
