About 10 days ago I reported problems with my iPAQ 314 using 3a for the first time, and what I had done, which seemed to work OK when not flying.
Today was the first time I have flown since and I had exactly the same problems with the iPAQ 314. It stops showing movement on the map, and the screen either does not respond, or responds after a long delay
I then switched from the iPAQ 314 to my M400, with exactly the same setup, and after a time, exactly the same problem happened. I was using the GT Altimeter, so I removed it, but it made no difference, movement freezes and then jumps a bit, freezes again, and the touch screen is almost unusable. It did make sounds when tapped but nothing happened, or occasionally something happened after 10 secs delay. Strsnge that 2 different devices, one using a BT gps, and the other using it's own internal gps, display exactly the same problem.

Re Estimated height. I've just looked at the $GPGGA again. The term I was thinking of is actually the difference between geoid and WGS84 - I was mistakenly thinking it was actual ground height! My error and sorry to confuse.....

looks like an hardware problem, more than software, as you say. It may depend on the fact that sometimes LK is writing runtime.log so when this happens maybe after a few hours some buffer saturates and the disk goes faulty.
I dont understand the question for estimated height..

Hello Coolwind, Ref Freezing on early Compaq iPaq H3600.
I have now written a "GPS simulator" and had it running round a triangle for several hours. (My "simulator" program behaves like a glider sinking in cruise down to 2000ft and then thermalling to 4500ft.)
When sending both $GPRMC and $$GPGGA meassages (one immediately after the other with the pair sent at 1 second repeat rate) I had one freeze which occurred after 65 mins. Sending ONLY $GPGGA no freezes but as far as I remember no track indicated which I presume is as expected. Sending both $GPGGA and $GPRMC but with "Best Alternate Warnings" switched to "Off" no freezing during a run of more than 6 hours.
I'm beginning to think it may be a faulty SD Card problem in perhaps only one or more locations? Anyway - I don't think it can be anything to do with "LK8000" itself.

Curiosity - sending only $GPRMC seems to work fine but do you then lose accuracy on estimated height AGL?

Best regards.

Hi Coolwind,
did you have chance to simulate a flight with my LK8000 folder?

Best regards!
Coolwind Posted - 24/06/2012 : 15:01:28
I can only try some blind attempts, so lets see.
Changing to 3.0c will ensure the executable is sane, in case the old one was corrupted.
Please reinstall also default_menu inside system, just to be sure.
Then, check you dont have background programs running, as they might eat up memory.
Honestly I have no experience with CE 3.0.

Hello Coolwind, I can't see anything listed which would relate to this freeze but it could be something that is connected to one of the fixes. I will not be flying for a couple of weeks but will install 3.0c and report back when I am able to.
Thanks for your reply and suggestion.

Please check on the website all the bugs we have fixed in 3.0a to 3.0c . Maybe one of them is for your case, maybe.

I have had freezing problems too.
Running on a very early Compaq iPaq pocketpc running Windows CE 3.0 because I find it more readable than a Mio 555. Running the LK8000-PPC2002 program which I trust is correct - runs in Portrait mode. Program is on an SD card in the expansion pack. Actually it is in the SD slot on the Haicom GPS. For an hour or so before the freeze occurs it seems to run quite fast. LK8000 Version 3.0a (Feb 15 2012)

The freeze seems to occur when the notification "Best alternate 'new landable place' " comes up. This box stays on the screen and the map behind is frozen. If the "alternate" changes to a better one I do get a new notification but the map is still frozen. Some other notifications occurs as well.
If I touch the Menu button the green boxes appear but if I try to select one of them all I get is a click sound but no change in the "frozen" screen.
If you turn the Compaq off with the power button when you turn on again the frozen screen is still there. A reset is the only way out that I have found.

Just for the record, my iPAQ 314 hasn't frozen since I posted on 20 May.

Thanks, I will replicate a takeoff from your home using a Mio400 or another PNA.
This means: I connect an external NMEA generator that can actually feed the PNA with a flight data just like a real GPS on your airfield. If anything happens, we shall know it quite soon.
HAving the whole LK folder is of great help, there are no possible misunderstandings.
Stand by..

Hi,

I have a Navigon Max 3300. I had freezes a long time ago and I know itīs considered as unstable device. But, LK8000 has been working fine for some time now (except some freezes when loading up airspace or terrain data). However, not having used it for some time I updated to LK8000 3.0c for the new season.

Everything seemed to be fine on the ground. However in the air I experience freeezs again. Several restarts in the air resulted again in freezes after few minutes.

It was a hot day when I experienced this first and I thought maybe the device is overheated. To test this I had it running for 3 hours in direct sun light on a hot day on the ground while I was going for a swim. It still worked perfectly when I came back...

Yesterday same problem: Flying in a powered glider. This time without external power supply. It froze after a few minutes...

I zipped my LK8000 folder. You can download it until 24 June at https://gigamove.rz.rwth-aachen.de/d/id/Q56G5G8R2y6N9w

I think we dont understand each other... and I give up!

As I wrote, I need the LK8000 folder, because I need to REPLICATE your exact configuration.

Hi Paolo!

The following link gives you a download of the Runtime.7z and is valid for 3 days:

It is useless to do so, the pic is not available, and I dont need that information anyway alone.

Hi Paolo!

I've checked the recorded Data again but couldn't find any evidence that everything has happened the way I've described it.
I compressed the IGC- and Runtime.log-Files to a 33kB 7z-File and uploaded it using the Image-Upload-Function.
Please remove the .jpg from the file before unflating.

Kind Regards HPD (D-MHPD)
