Wind calculation made by external instruments requires configuration! ---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are using an external instrument such as a Zander, an LX, an Ilec or any other instrument that can provide wind calculation, then you need to configure LK to use this information. You can do it permanently inside configuration, menu 5, Auto Wind should be set to "external". Or/And you can do it during the flight, Menu, Config, Setup Wind, Auto wind set to external. When using external wind, no calculation is performed while circling. If for any reason you want to disable external wind during the flight, simply enter Setup Wind menu and change the setting.
If the Auto wind is not configured to "external", the wind calculated externally will be IGNORED.
LK8000 VERSION 3.1c 120428 ==========================
NEW
. Flight Data Recorder, for flight engineers. See separated docs.
. Configuration for using wind precalculated by external instrument In config menu 5 (Glide Computer) Auto Wind can also be "External" In basic wind setup , the same.
CHANGES
. Using external wind from instruments like CAI, LX etc requires setting. See addendum manual.
. Vector runway radio information customised for resolutions
FIXES
. Fix critical bug since v2.0 in wind setup dialog, possible crashes! . Fix 3.1 UTM coordinates in status dialog . Fix invalid date received by Condor simulator, not updating gps calculations and not detecting takeoff.

Turn ON manually GPRS Transfer in your PDA and then start real or sim fly with LK. This works on Samsung GT-i8000 |

Posted - 03/05/2012 : 23:40:53 An airborne start is unrealistic, so please use freeflight start button for that. There is no problem here. If you start airborne, LK may wait for some events to decide you have finished towing . Be assured we have enough users to find out if a freeflight detection is faulty or not in real life. |

Posted - 03/05/2012 : 23:01:35 Fair enough. For what it's worth, it SHOULD be just like turning on LK after releasing from tow (i.e., after starting free flight). :-) It isn't a big problem, though, just an oddity I thought I'd report. I don't get to fly often enough in real life to know whether it's a real-life problem or not.
Thanks,
Eric |

I'm not sure this is the issue. The second chime is usually several minutes (maybe even close to an hour) after the first, timed as expected, chime. Why would it wait 10-60 minutes and several thermals to detect the start of free flight? By the way, virtually all of my Condor flights use an airborne start, so I'm in "free flight" from the very start.
Thanks,
Eric |

Posted - 02/05/2012 : 23:54:40 The second chime is the start if free flight after the takeoff. This is since 3.0. To get wind speed since 3.1c you need to set external wind in basic setup, or in config. It is explained in the addendum manual. Of course you also need to set condor device, but thats not enough: you must actually tell LK that you want to use its wind also, and you can change it during flight . This is particularly useful in real flights.

Thanks. I flew a Condor race two nights ago with 3.1c, and this was indeed fixed. There are two related(?) issues, though, using LK with Condor. I didn't check whether these existed in 3.1b, since the no-takeoff-detection problem kept me from using 3.1b with Condor:
1. There's an occasional takeoff chime well after I've already been given one, and just after this "phantom" chime, the Th.All stat goes briefly to the moon, as if all the climbing I've done so far was done since this latest takeoff chime. This problem existed in 3.1a, I believe.
2. LK doesn't appear to be getting wind speed and direction from Condor. I guess it's calculating it from GPS data as in real flight, as once I start circling, it gets this wind data. I double-checked my config settings, and they're right (set to "Condor") - the same as in my 3.0b setup, which does get wind data from Condor.
Thanks for all your work,
Eric |

Posted - 01/05/2012 : 12:26:47 Ok, thanks Ulli, now it behaves like supposed.
To Messages: 1) If a message is worth a message it should be acknowledged by pilot. Other messages should not exist. I do not watch LK display to pick up eventually arising messages that a alive only for seconds. 2) Message Repeat is not really message repeat because an important message can already be overwritten by a new one. A list of the last 10 messages would be better. 3) Message Repeat should be accessible via configurable custom key and by custom menu. 4) To be honest: I think 1) to 3) were not worth to write because Paolo seems to believe to have the best operating concept already ;-) Best, Kai |

Posted - 01/05/2012 : 09:34:39 XBatt1 logging and warning is enabled 1 10.7 15.0 30 20 /* XBatt1 ... */
True airspeed logging and warning is enabled 1 0.0 275.0 10 20 /* True airspeed km/h */
to disable both, it should look like this 0 0.0 0.0 0 10 /* True airspeed km/h */
The warnings use the standard warning dialog. If it is too short, you can recall the message Info2/2->Message Repeat |

Posted - 30/04/2012 : 22:42:50 Good idea, the config file! I renamed the FlightRecorder.cfg.off to FlightRecorder.cfg. Then I disabled all but not xBat1 and true airspeed warning. As you can see below (a copy of the content of my .cfg) but I get an "outside air temperature" warning (0 < 2.5) if I use pc.exe in simulator mode. Do I do anything wrong? Best, Kai P.S: The messages are not displayed long enough for me. Impossible to read them that fast. What about a second value in fist line of .cfg file where we can setup how long the messages appear?
