This is a preview of a nice device I have been working on lately.
It will be soon available through a reseller in Czech, our friend Wolf of http://www.wolf-gear.com who kindly sent me one unit to work on.

This is a 3 inches display device, with a neat TFT LCD which is fully visible under direct sunlight.
The device is sized a bit smaller than a Garmin Oregon, but has exactly the same display, with a diagonal of 7.6cm .
Garmin owners know that their devices have a beutiful screen, and the FunTrek makes no exception. The resolution is 240x400 or 400x240 in landscape mode.

Let's look at this device compared to a MIO400 under sunlight.

Notice the shadow: the sun is almost perpendicular, and in July at 14pm is particularly shining (photo taken in a full bright day).

I have shown this unit at the airfield, and people just said "perfect" concerning the visibility in the sun.

There are interesting things about this device:
1) Thanks to an efficient light sensor, it can automatically self adjust backlight to economize batteries. Using auto backlight, LK can run for several hours while recording (approx. 8-9 hours).
With full backlight on, 3.5 hours are nevertheless granted.

2) Backlight control is available during usage of LK. This means that you can anytime change settings.

3) It has a barometric sensor, thus providing baro altitude to LK.

4) It has a digital compass and a 3 axis accelerometer (G sensor) which is available to LK, though not yet used.

It connects (and recharges also) to PC using a classic MiniUSB plug.
Internal memory (2G) appears as a flash disk. It also has a MicroSD card slot. I have a 4G sd card, total 6G memory. Lots of space.

The internal GPS is very sensible, as you would expect from an outdoor unit such this one: it is waterproof and it was born as a bike computer.

There are only two constraints:
1- Screen size (3 inches) may be too small for some people, depending on the usage
2- There is no real sound, only a beeper (buzzer). So LK will beep, instead of playing sounds. However, I did not find this to be a problem.

This is a real jewel in my opinion (also for the size :-) ).
LK is undergoing support for it, and can already manage power supply, screen of course, and internal sensors.
In the nearest page mode, all values are perfectly readable making it a perfect companion for safety flights.

There is no bluetooth or serial line available over miniUSB.

Another bigger unit (4.3 inches with the same display) is awaited from Holux in the very next months.

yes, device model is "GM130" and "use baro altitude" was on.
The baudrate was 4800 (GPS and baro altitude work), other baudrate will show "GPS data error".

Does lk8000@funtrek130 calculate vario with GPS attitude?
In the elevator(without GPS signal) the baro attitude changed but vario stayed 0.0

Coolwind Posted - 02/08/2014 : 20:35:27
There is no support for the internal compass (and there is no accelerometer inside).
The reason is that the compass would not work in flight, needing constant recalibration which is not possible without knowing the attitude.
To know the attitude you would need a gyroscope.

May I ask whether lk8000 use the internal digital compass and accelerometer now?

If yes, how to setup to get the data?
"deviceA: generic/com2/19200/8bit" as FUNTREK_130.dvc?
or "deviceA: internal"?
or need to setup device B?

Besides, in landscape mode(rotate 90'), have the digital compass value been fixed(by automatic or manual)?
Is portrait mode on the Funtrek still unusable with 5.0a?
Thank you.

You can try first by resetting the device , switch off and on as usual I mean, and run LK normally.
The problem with Igo is that it is reconfiguring the gps asking for updates from it only after some seconds, while LK would like to receive it once a second!
On some PNA it is sufficient not to run Igo before LK, after a restart. Not a big problem after all.

If the clock in LK is advancing every second, in real mode with a real gps fix, then it is ok. If it is still advancing every some seconds, then it is a problem.

Ups I did it !!!
Uninstalling it will solve the issue or I have to do something else?
Coolwind Posted - 10/04/2014 : 17:42:26
If you installed Igo, it is the reason.

Can be any setting I had modified?
Or any navigation software I installed on the 130 had changed something?
I guess the first times I used the delay was not a problem. May be I´m wrong, but now I guess is more than 2 seconds ...
Coolwind Posted - 10/04/2014 : 12:49:06
each gps position is related to a precise time. You can check that the time shown on LK running on Fntrek is the same as LK running on another gps. If so, and it is quite sure to be, then the positions are correct too.
Remember that intrinsically you are looking at a trace which is always 1 to 2 seconds late (gps get the position updated, transmit it to LK, and at an 1 second interval we update the map).

Hello all
I´m very impressed with this LK8000 on the Funtrek 130 I bought last year.
Now I have been using it for some paragliding flights and I found a problem during thermal circling.

It seems the gps position is delayed several seconds, so when you see you are passing besides the core and is time to tight the turn is in fact too late, you are actually exiting the thermal...

I don´t know if this is a settings problem like smoothing gps position or if it is normal.

hi... you will get complete info, files, links, etc. by email. it is rather difficult to react to requirements immediately, or in hours.

thank you to your patience.

Somebody can help me with the instalation of the LK8000 to the Funtrek 130 ?

What I did now.

1.Upload the LK8000 folder to the SD Card
2.Create links in the "app" folder on the SD Card for the LK8000-PNA.exe and for the rotate tool in the sys folder (Copy from Smartmaps, with rewrite of the name and path to the files)
3.Made my personal icons in the app folder, place the link to the files in the previous file.

But now I am stucked. Can not find the programs in the Holux system. If I follow advice from Wolf (one of the previous page) go to Aplication-Click the Wheel and I do not see my maps. :-/

Am I missing something? or something is wrong with my approach? Thank you in advanced for the help :)
