The Visual Race System is an advanced 3D viewing system for gliding races (it can also be adapted for other sports) based on the soaring simulator Condor.
Thanks to the photoreal high resolution sceneries by Bluangel56, the look and feel of the viewer is almost comparable to the very expensive production of real life aerial videos; the VRS allows to show the race in a very captivating way to the public, also with the possible addition of a real time audio commentary.

The system's multiple video outputs offer to the public the possibilty to follow the race on a big screen in the field, through a proprietary Web video channel and on TV, even in very high frame rate (150 fps average) and with a Full HD resolution (1080p).
PostFrontal can provide upon request all the necessary hardware to help the publishing of the event on one or all these channels.

The gliders' position is sent to a proprietary server in real time using the latest available technology: the SAFLY units by DSX. The GPS position is brought into the system via a GPRS carrier (and via satellite in the near future).

The VRS can show in real time possible outlandings and parts of the race where one or more pilots can get into difficult or dangerous situations.
In an unfortunate crash event, the system allows the localization of the plane on the ground within a 10 meters range precision, offering rescue teams the most accurate and immediate information currently available.

All the virtual glider's instruments visible in the cockpit work like those in a real pilot's cockpit, including variometer with sound. This technical detail particularly catches the interest of other pilots following the race from home.

Thanks to a "virtual camera" that lends the chance of infinite positioning and dynamic possibilities, a very complex real-time editing of the race can be performed that helps to maintain the public's attention and interest.
There is also the possibility to insert advertising into the scenery which is particularly advantageous for race oranisations looking for sponsors/funding.

The software part of Visual Race System has been used for the first time at the Rieti World Gliding Championships in July 2008 with great success, attracting FAI's attention as well. In that occasion, some Vpos and custom trackers built by West Aquila, an Aquila University spinoff, have been used.
